Seahorse Swim School, Inc. focuses on preparing our swimmers for all situations,
by including water safety topics daily in our lessons. We teach our
swimmers to think before they sink. Students are empowered when they
learn that they have options when they get caught off guard in
the water. They learn that they are able to take charge of
thier own safety while learning life saving skills. We want all of
our swimmers to be as comfortable in their aquatic environment as
they can be. Each Seahorse Swimmer is taught with patience,
encouragement and expertise.

Backyard pools are an enormous source of fun for
children and families. If you do not have your own pool, you
probably know someone that does. As important as it is to have fun
swimming and playing around the pool, it's just as important to be
safe and ensure the safety of others, especially
children.
|
Here are some safety tips
for backyard pools and swimming:
-
Never leave
children unsupervised;
-
Enroll
children in swim lessons;
-
Become
certified in CPR and First Aid;
-
Build a
secure gate around pool and keep it locked when you are not
using the pool;
-
Keep
pool well maintained and make sure there is always full
visibility in the pool water.

1. See shade when possible between the hours of 10 a.m
to 4 p.m. Teach your children to look for shade. 2. Apply
broad-spectrum sunscreen 15-30 minutes PRIOR to exposure. Use
an SPF of 30 or more for maximum protection. Look for titanium
dioxide, zinc oxide, or Parsol 1789 as active ingredients for
maximum sun protection. Don't forget the ears,
scalp and tops of hands/feet. 3. Teach your children
to know the importance of putting on sunscreen, make it a
daily habit so it becomes automatic. 4. Use water-resistant
products and, if swimming, reapply periodically. 5.
Wear a hat to cover face, neck and ears. Wear a longsleeved
SPF rash-guard or wetsuit when swimming/surfing.6. See a
dermatologist for an overall skin evaluation annually and
report abnormalities early for best results. |
